My running goals for this year are to run 600 miles and to run two half marathons. I’m halfway to one goal and almost halfway to the other! I didn’t think I could do it, but with a 3-mile run on Monday, I passed 300 miles at exactly halfway through the year! It wasn’t the best run ever because it was the day after I ran my first 10-miler in nearly two years. But I did it and it counts. I had a really slow start to the year and I’ve been working to build my mileage. When I realized last week I could actually make it to 300 by the end of June I was determined to make it happen.

I’m almost halfway to my half marathon goal… because I finally signed up for the Madison Mini on Sunday night! I’ve been so nervous because it seemed like it took forever to build mileage and I’m still super slow and it could very well be 100 degrees for a half marathon in August. But my running is going well and I’m actually feeling pretty confident at the moment. So there’s no turning back now! I was a little bummed though because I found when I signed up that if I’d done it two days earlier I would have paid $10 less. It all equals out though, I suppose, because I also ordered new shoes on Sunday night and used a coupon code that took $11 off the price. I just checked and confirmed my new shoes have been delivered and are currently on my porch.

So running is getting more exciting, finally. This week I’m cutting back and its kind of strange. I haven’t run since Monday… its been awhile since I took off two days in a row. I’ll build my long runs to 11 and 12 miles the next two weeks, then take a cutback the last full week of July when we go on vacation (more about that in another post!). Then I will have one week to build to 13, then one more cutback and then the race! I normally wouldn’t do such frequent cutbacks, but it works with our vacation and also since I’ve been building slowly.

  1. Way to go! I think the later part of year year is easier for running than the earlier, anyway. It’s much colder and icier in Jan and Feb than it is in Nov and Dec.
